When At The Drive-In broke up and split into Sparta and The Mars Volta. I was a little bummed. I did NOT like Sparta, and I didn't want to sit through 11 minute songs with the Mars Volta. Time passed, and after hearing TMV's Deloused quite a few times at work, I eventually started to warm up to it. As more albums came out, and I quickly became OBSESSED with the band. This obsession never died. I once wrote a review on one of their albums that said something to the effect of, "I wouldn't care if Omar and Cedric pooped on a microphone, I would still love it." When Noctourniquet came out, I ate those words. I did not like that album. In fact, I couldn't find one song I didn't find flat or trite. However, I was only slightly bummed, because I knew I could just wait for the next album, and it would probably be killer. Fast forward to today.
The tweets (this lingo is going to appear so outdated one day) that broke my heart:
"Thank u 2 all VOLTA fans u deserved more especially after the way u rooted for us on this album. I tried my hardest to keep it going "
"But Bosnian Rainbows was what we all got instead. I can't sit here and pretend any more. I no longer am a member of Mars Volta"
Twitter was a flood of Cedric's rants and disparaging remarks about Omar and his inability to fulfill his duties to the fans by touring, or having his heart "in it".
So, I went ahead and listened to Bosnian Rainbows (Omar's side project). It. Is. Terrible.
Fuck.
I hope Cedric's side project (reportedly an acoustic project) is good. He does have a killer voice, but, will I miss the progressive crazy music of Omar's to accompany it? I guess we will see what these two amount to without one another.
